Coming Home

We brought Evan home from the hospital on Sunday, September 14. My parents and Geoff's mom greeted us when we arrived home. It was such a strange feeling to drive home with our tiny baby in the truck!
The nearly complete nursery.

Evan's Arrival

Our baby boy was born on September 11, 2009. My water broke while eating lunch at the country club with Geoff, Dad, Stan, Rusty, William, and Don. Geoff and I went home to get ready to go to the hospital. Geoff was so excited that he felt it was necessary to play a few rounds of MarioKart to settle down. I was beginning to have some mild contractions on the way to Greenville. When we reached Delta Regional Medical Center, we were informed that there were no rooms and we would need to wait in a temporary room. Geoff, Mom, and I stayed in what felt like a closet for an hour or so, then I was moved to Suite E.
After settling into my new room, things began to progress more quickly. At 4:00 PM, I requested some pain medication. I think it was around this time that I kicked my family, except Geoff, out of the room for a while. At 8:20 PM, Dr. Beckham arrived to administer my epidural. After several difficult attempts to start the epidural, I was fully dilated and it was time to push! Stephanie and Autumn are amazing nurses, and I don't think I would have survived without them. After 51 long minutes, we were finally able to meet our beautiful baby boy. Evan Kinney Swihart was born at 10:31 PM. He weighed 8 pounds 2 ounces.
